According to ESPN Radio 1000, the Cubs have signed Kerry Wood to a one-year contract worth $4 million, Rotoworld has reported.
If true, initial sentiment is that Wood got fleeced. I think if he waited, he might have been able to get a multi-year deal out there somewhere. Perhaps the Cubs assured him the closer’s role? Interesting move…

Wow, Wood definitely fleeced himself! I bet he easily could have gotten a 2-year deal elsewhere, with a vesting option for a 3rd.
Agreed. I mean, not even a player option? Horrible.
Unless they promised him the closer’s role, then I can see why he’d want to stay.
Well, that and the face that maybe he feels like he owes it to Chicago to be a part of the solution since they stuck with him so long.
I don’t know. I guess maybe he feels he owes the fans and the organization something, I can see that. But still, he moved the market back down after the Cordero and Linebrink signings.
