Cardinals Ink Izturis
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have come to terms with free agent SS Ceaser Izturis on a 1-year contract, worth $2.85 million, and as much as $3.5 million if all incentive bonuses are reached. Izturis is 27 yeard old, and was a Pittsburgh Pirate last season, but they declined his ‘08 option.
Not that Izturis’ career totals of a .258 batting average and 11 home runs are much to get excited about, he does play Gold-Glove caliber defense, as evidenced by his trophy from the 2004 season. More importantly regarding this move, at least in my mind, is that the signing of Izturis seems to signal and end to David Eckstein’s tenure in St. Louis.
