Marlins-Angels hit Snag on Cabrera Trade

m-cab.jpg

According to Espn.com’s Jayson Stark, the Florida Marlins and Los Angeles Angels have hit a roadblock in their trade negotiations for sluuger Miguel Cabrera.

The two sides have agreed that 2B Howie Kendrick and C Jeff Mathis would be included in any deal.  But it appears they cannot both agree on which pitchers will also be included in the package.  The Marlins have apparently increased their asking price two different times now, as the sides have come close to reaching an accord.  The three pitchers discussed in the trade have been Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders and the Angels top-pitching prospect Nick Adenhart.  Apparently, the Marlins want two from that group, but the Angels are only willing to part with one, unless changes are made to the Kendrick/Mathis side of the deal.

It appears there is a stalemate right now in the talks, and the Angels insist the Marlins will need to contact them during next week’s Winter Meetings for talks to resume.  My guess is a deal gets done by Tuesday night…
