Braves Still Like Fuentes

Troy Renck of the Denver Post confirms this morning that the Atlanta Braves are still interested in Rockies left handed reliever Brian Fuentes.

The addition of Luis Vizcaino (pending physical) to the Rockies bullpen makes trading Fuentes a more likely possibility for Colorado.  The 32 year old lefty would be a nice fit in Atlanta’s pen, and provide insurance for the injured Mike Gonzalez.  Renck does say, however, that a Braves official believes a trade will be difficult because of Fuentes salary (expected be around $5M in 2008).

The Astros, Mets and Red Sox also displayed interested in Fuentes at the Winter Meetings.  As reported here, the Rockies wanted Aaron Heilman from New York.  They asked for 2B prospect Jed Lowrie from Boston.  I.e., they tried to fleece both teams, and will probably attempt to fleece Atlanta.
