Angels Make Push for Konerko?
According to mlbtraderumors.com, the Los Angeles Angels could be discussing a deal with the White Sox for first baseman Paul Konerko. No other link to provide, since this rumor is being reported based on an a “solid tip” they have received. (Konerko’s potential availability on the trade market was mentioned here at the Factor on December 13th.)
The one name mentioned in this article that would make perfect sense to me is Chone Figgins. Obviously, other players could be involved should this rumor be accurate. Figgins would add speed to the Chicago lineup, and allow them to move recently acquired Nick Swisher to first base.
It should be noted that Konerko’s potential availability on the trade market was mentioned here at the Factor on December 13th (relayed from the Tribune). (In that Fleece Factor article, we even speculated a Figgins/Konerko swap. Hey, mabye Kenny Williams reads the Fleece Factor!)
Should Konerko head to Los Angeles, that would make for a much more potent lineup. The Angels already signed free agent center fielder Torri Hunter, and have slugging outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, Gary Matthews Jr., Garret Anderson, and young stud Howie Kendrick (assuming he is not a part of such a deal). Add Konerko to this mix, and the Angels would have a solid offense to go with their strong pitching, and would be a major contender in the American League in 2008.

Figgins would make sense for the White Sox, but someone else would need to be included. I wonder if Figgins/Kendrick would be too much for the Angels to stomach?
Kendrick would be a hefty price to include for Konerko, considering age and everything. That’s what it might take, however. Time will tell. This is all speculation at this point.
The Angels would have to be drunk to trade Kendrick. Not happening.
Yeah, I figured they wouldn’t trade Kendrick for Konerko, especially when they didn’t really seem to want to for Cabrera. But my guess if Kenny Williams asks for him, no?
[…] Konerko makes a lot of sense for Chicago, and some sense for LA. That point was made late last night at the Factor. So maybe that trade will happen. (That swap was speculated here on December […]
