According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Florida Marlins signed former Angels 3B Dallas McPherson to a 1-year deal, worth $425,000. McPherson will compete with Jose Castillo and Jorge Cantu for the starting job at the hot corner.

McPherson missed all of 2007 while recovering from back surgery. In 2006, he batted .261 with 7 HR’s and 13 RBI in 115 at-bats. At the very least, the team will have a solid Spring Training competition brewing.
