According to mlb.com, left handed starter Odalis Perez “tried out” for the Philadelphia Phillies in the Dominican Republic on Saturday. Perez, 30, has pitched parts of the last two season with the Kansas City Royals. In 26 starts in 2007, Perez went 8-11 for the Royals with a less-than-impressive 5.57 ERA. It was the last year of a fleecer-ific contract that paid him $7.75 million.
Perez is 66-70 for his career with a 4.47 ERA. The Phillies are looking for some kind of insurance for the back-end of their pitching rotation. They currently have Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Kyle Kendrick, Jamie Moyer and Adam Eaton slated as their 5-man rotation.
