Sabathia Breaks Off Extension Talks
Left-handed ace C.C. Sabathia has announced on his website that he has broken off talks with the Indians regarding a long term contract extension.
Writes Sabathia: “This off-season, through my representatives at Legacy Sports Group, I have discussed the possibility of a contract extension with the Cleveland Indians. At this time, we haven’t been able to reach agreement. Now that the reporting date for spring training is here, it is time to put aside contract discussions so that I can focus all of my energies and attention on preparing for the upcoming season….I remain hopeful that these discussions will result in a contract extension that will keep me with the franchise for many years to come. In the meantime, in order to avoid any distractions, my representatives and I will not make any further comment about my contractual situation beyond this statement.”
As relayed here at The Factor, Cleveland has made Sabathia a five-year offer, which includes a four-year extension worth between $68 million and $72 million. (Sabathia
is owed $11.25 million in 2008). But it sounds like big C.C. is out for a larger chunk of cheddar, and I have little doubt that it is because of “The Santana Effect.” Go get your cheddar, C.C.

See yah in the Bronx next year CC. Sabathia, Wang, Joba, Hughes, IPK….Damn, thats a rotation!
It’s actually a pretty mediocre rotation considering your enormous payroll. But whatever, be a homer.
I still don’t see him in the Bronx next season, and I think I may be the only one.
I hope your right. Come to phily, CC. You’ll love the cheesesteaks.
Utley, that’s funny. Ruben Amaro is the dumbest GM this side of Hank Steinbrenner’s ass.
He’s not the Gm.
PS: even if he was the GM, amaro would do a lot more with $150M than omar.
He’s the GM next year. Geez, you Sillies fans don’t even know your own team. He thinks this team is better than last year’s, sans Aaron Rowand and Brett Myers (he was much better off in the pen). Next year, Perez walks, the Mets get Big Tex, the Shanks get C.C., and the Phils wallow in third once again.
you were talking about current gm’s, omar . give anyone $150 million payroll and they’ll do better than omar. i mean, just imagine the phils could spend another $50 million. we would have nabbed santana, rivera and lowell this offseason.
You would have nabbed Santana? I bet you can’t name two Phillies prospects off the top of your head. Why? Because they’re so bad. Santana would’ve vetoed any trade to Philly anyway.
Rivera and Lowell were staying with the Shanks and the Sox the whole time. Silly Sillies fans…
Why don’t you pick up some class from one of the countless drug dealers that walk the streets of your crime-riddled streets, and then we’ll talk.
