Off-Field Fleeces: Phillies Pull Prank on Kendrick
On ESPN’s Sportscenter this morning, there was a very intriguing report of a prank pulled by the entire Phillies’ organization on starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick. Apparently, the organization informed Kendrick that he was “traded to Japan.” They had Kendrick sign three different documents, gave him his flight plans and itinerary, and they even had the team’s announcers there to interview the young pitcher. As a matter of fact, the pitcher’s agent was even in on the prank! The agent was trying to ease Kendrick’s concerns by telling the pitcher it presented him with an opportunity to make some more cheddar. Kendrick was convinced he had to be on a 7:00 am flight over-seas.
The kicker, obviously, is that MLB players can’t be ‘traded’ to Japan. Once informed of the prank, obviously Kendrick was beyond relieved. What an amazing fleece. Nice ball to the Phillies on this one!
