Players in Mitchell Report Seem Safe from Penalty by MLB
The numerous players that are still active in major league baseball that were named on George Mitchell’s report investigating the use of performance enhancing drugs are apparently safe from any suspensions or other league penalties, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Bud Selig has not made a final determination in regards to this issue, but MLB officers and the player’s union have been working hard to comply with the recommendations of Senator Mitchell. Of course, Bud Selig was not available to comment.
If there were any suspension handed down, they would follow the league’s policies that existed at the time of said infractions. This leaves only a few players that would be open to such penalties since there were no league policies during a majority of the years players had used. Miguel Tejada, Roger Clemens, and Barry Bonds would seemingly be safe from any punishment.
