Off-Field Fleeces: Matsui Joining Pie with “Unique” Injury

UPDATE: 8:46am (3/15)  - According to mlb.com, Matsui will have surgery to get this issue taken care of once and for all. He’ll be out about 2 weeks, and is most likely going to miss opening day. Mark Loretta and Geoff Blum would fill in at second until Matsui returns.

Mar 11 - Astros’ second-baseman Kaz Matsui will be joining Felix Pie with an injury of the unique, and painful variety. According to the Houston Chronicle, Matusi will miss roughly 4-5 days. He apparently has an “anal fissure”, or a tear of the anal skin. Between Matsui’s “anal fissure” and Pie’s “testicle torsion”, I sit here and report these stories in pain. Best wishes to you, too, Kaz.

  1. Hmm….. I sure hope these injuries didn’t occur on the same “play”.

  2. Ha! Nice ball.

  3. Looks like Matsui caught the same thing he gave the Mets.

  4. Was going to write something similar, Sean, but opted not to. Thanks for picking up the slack!

  5. There are really only a very few ways for this particular injury to occur:

    1: Dehydration-related constipation
2: Swallowing, then passing, a jagged object
3: Take a wild flying guess
