Beckett Feeling Better; Daisuke is a Father

Accoring to Nick Cafardo at The Boston Globe, Josh Beckett is doing better after being out about a week with his back injury, and will begin a throwing program this morning. He will start pitching from flat ground first, and work his way up to throwing from the mound.

He is not expected to make the trip to Japan with the Red Sox, where they will face the Oakland Athletics for 2 games. Our previous reports on Beckett’s injuries can be found here. It is likely that Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jon Lester will start the two games there. Oh, and congrats to Daisuke and his wife on their new baby boy! They had a 6 lbs, 10 oz. baby boy yesterday morning at a hospital in Boston.

  1. See, this is what makes me kind of wonder why everyone is sold on Josh Beckett being the best right handed hurler in the game. The guy is nasty, there’s no doubt, but he’s only really held up for one ace quality season in his career. The big game pitcher quality is definitely there, but he’s just always seemed to have some minor ailments that have held him back. Everyone knew if he put a full healthy season together he’d do what he did in 2007, but that just doesn’t seem to be the norm for him. Whether its his back, blisters on his fingers, etc., I really want to see Beckett put together back-to-back quality seasons before I can view him as the best RHSP in the game.

  2. I have a feeling that Josh’s back will magically heal as soon as the plane leaves for Japan.
