D-Backs Acquire LHP from Reds
According to Steve Gilbert at MLB.com, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired left-hander Jon Coutlangus from the Cincinnati Reds yesterday for outfielder Daniel Perales. Coutlangus appeared in 64 games for the Reds last season in relief, and he was optioned to the D-Backs AAA affiliate upon completion of the trade. He went 4-2 with a 4.39 ERA for the Reds.
Coutlangus also has options remaining, so we may see him in the D-Backs bullpen at some point this season. Currently, Arizona only have one lefty in their pen, Doug Slaten. Said D-Backs GM on the deal, “Lefty with options. Obviously, we’re looking for a little more left-handed pitching and a guy with some flexibility. It’s a good fit for us because we’re pretty right-handed.”
According to the piece, “Perales hit .282 in 136 games for Class A South Bend last year and is currently on the disabled list.”
