Homer Award: Random Guy at Shea Stadium

It’s been a while since we’ve handed out a Homer Award here at MLB Fleece Factor.  But today, we’ve been made aware of a person who wears his “Homer-ism” on his sleeve.  Literally.

Fleece Factor has been sent a picture from today’s Mets game of a New York Mets homer who has accepted his homerism to the fullest, and has decided to embrace the said homerism.  This homer has went so far as to purchase a customized, authentic looking Mets jersey with the name “HOMER” plastered on the back.  That is Homer dedication, my friend.  And to you, Mr. Random Guy as Shea Stadium, we grant a Homer Award.

By the way, check out all of our Homer Awards here.

  1. That’s great. Good for you, Mr. Random Guy at Shea Stadium. That’s a true fan right there. LETS GO METS!

In other news, the Mets have issued a missing persons report for Pedro Feliciano, who was seen missing in action today as Scott Schoeneweis allowed the game to be tied in the top of the seventh. Although it was Carlos “so-good-we-get-bored” Delgado that screwed it up.

  2. Imagine if this guy’s name is actually Homer?

PS: Yes, I question Willie’s managerial skills. First manager to get fired this year? I wouldn’t put it past him if the Mets get off to a horrid start.

  3. Hey! Can Homer pitch middle relief?

  4. That is fantastic. Omar, were you at the game? ;)

  5. There needs to be more of these shirts in stadiums! haha

  6. Wow, most homers try to hide their homerisms to some extent…this guy was blatant…kudos, Homer.

  7. As am I, Mr. Fleece. Unfortunately, I was not at the game; I’m going Thursday. It was supposed to be Johan’s Shea debut, but the Atlanta rain day screwed up the schedule, so the number 2, John Maine, will pitch. Oh well. It’s still the New York Mets.

Feliciano was excused from the game, citing “personal reasons,” according to Adam Rubin of the Daily News. That’s why he wasn’t put in. I’m not calling for Willie’s head just yet, but I’m not as sold on him as I once was.

  8. Any excuse for which the Homers running this blog can come up with to talk about their beloved Mets is readily apparent.

See that number 204 right next to the Mets, it’s a dead give away :-)

  9. Coach….nice to see your top prospect is on the HGH. Good job.

  10. The Mets number is high because of all the Santana rumors.

Trust me, I am not a Mets homer. Far from it.

  11. I have to also agree with you McFleece. After last year’s collapse, a slow start will probably end Willie’s tenure with the Mets. I don’t see the Wilpons tollerating a season of “Fire Willie” chants, even if they are notoriously loyal to a fault. I also think Willie throwing Ollie Perez under the bus to cover his own managerial mistakes didn’t help matter. (See: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-spmside095643307apr09,0,1308504.story). Look for Ollie to remain mum about this issue, but to bring it up at the end of the year when the Mets try to sign him before he files for free agency.
