2008 MLB Team Payrolls Revealed
The 2008 payrolls were released earlier this month by Major League Baseball, and there were a few surprises. What isn’t
much of a surprise is that the New York Yankees were once again #1 on that list, topping $209 million (yet another payroll record).
Of interest though is that both the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets have leap-froged the Boston Red Sox, who have now slid into 4th place on the list. The Mets now outspend their closest divisional rival, the Braves, by roughly $37 million.
Another thing that gave me pause was that the Marlins actually cracked $20 million! I was thinking more in the range of $13-15 million, but it’s still a roughly $9 decrease from last season. Anyway, here are the rankings. Enjoy!
