Krivsky Fleeced Out of His Job
UPDATE: (4/23) 2:45pm (EST) - We had previously speculated about Krivsky’s job status once Walt Jocketty was brought on board. Jocketty had previously denied interest in the GM position, which appears to have been a blatant lie. I mean, we couldn’t expect him to say anything different at that point in time, but still. I wonder if it was Jocketty who was sitting in Wayne’s office this morning with an “Old Navy” fleece jacket, and a pick slip. Nice fleece, Walt.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati Reds have fired GM Wayne Krivsky. Krivsky had previously been second in command to Twins’ GM Terry Ryan. After being on the job for less than three years, his tour of duty with the club ends. The Reds went 161-184 (.467) with Krivsky as the General Manager. He seemed to sweat mediocrity, especially in the form of some of the older players, as opposed to focusing on the building a foundation centered around the youth already in the organization.
Walt Jocketty, formerly of the St. Louis Cardinals, will now get the nod as Reds’ GM. Jocketty was hired as a “special advisor”, and he most likely “advised” management to fire Krivsky. Jocketty comes with a solid resume. He spent 13 years with the Cardinals, making the playoffs 7 times.

Dumb move by the Reds. I looked at a list of the moves he’s made on MLBTradeRumors, and he’s actually done a decent job as the GM…
He’s made some bad moves too, but overall Josh, I agree with you. He’s done far more good for this organization then harm. He got a raw deal.
Writing was on the wall when Jocketty was brought in, Krivsky had to see it coming. He got fleeced.
If Krivsky was behind the Edinson Volquez for Josh Hamilton fleece of the Rangers, then the Reds made a big mistake. It’s a shame for Krivsky because a lot of the young players the Reds amassed in the past few years (Cueto, Volquez, Votto, Bailey, Belisle) are finally reaching the majors and starting to help the team just as he gets the boot.
I agree with Mr. Fleece and Fred. The Reds made a big mistake AND Krivsky got fleeced. This smells of Jocketty poisoning all over.
Hamilton is a solid player, though. He just wasn’t necessary in the Reds system, and he could screw up again. Volquez was a good haul in a trade that should have never happened from the Rangers side. Haven’t they learned that they need to keep young pitching?
OR, while I agree that Hamilton can rake when he is healthy (which wasn’t very often last year, and we won’t even get into his past baggage), in this day and age, any trade of an outfielder for a starter with Edinson’s upside is a fleece, unless the outfielder is a bona fide all around all-star (i.e., Sizemore, Magglio Ordonez, Ichiro, Francoeur, Beltran, and Holiday). Hitters are not too hard to come by, but pitching is at a premium
I agree too that this is silly, Krisky had some bad moments but he got some huge value out of nothing (Brandon Phillips, Josh Hamilton)
