Fuentes Closing Again for Rockies

As per the Rocky Mountain News, the Rockies have announced that Brian Fuentes will once again inherit the closer’s job. This due to, in large part, two consecutive blown saves by Manuel Corpas against the Chicago Cubs. In total, Corpas was just 4 out of 8 thus far in save chances. He had blown 3 saves in his last 4 appearances. Corpas will most likely pitch the 7th and 8th inning for the Rockies, as they try to get him back on track.

Thus far in 2008, Fuentes is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA while appearing in 12 games. He had been the Rockies’ closer from 2005 until last summer (where Fuentes had blown 4 straight save chances at one point). Corpas had out-pitched him and took his job. The roles have reversed, however.
