MLB Rumors, MLB Trade Rumors

Oswalt Staying with Astros

According to Alyson Footer at MLB.com, Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt laughed at questions about his supposed interest in waiving his no-trade clause. The questions apparently came from a recent comment on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight show, which hinted that the Astros were dangling Oswalt in trade talks, and that the right-hander was willing to waive his no-trade clause. The New York Yankees were mentioned as the front-runners to land Oswalt in any deal too.

Well, it turns out the report was about a year old. Last year, when the Astros were reeling, Oswalt said he’d consider waiving his no-trade clause if the Astros approached him about it. He did not specify which teams he would be interested in, but the piece notes that the Red Sox, Braves and Cardinals would likely be on his list.

Oswalt had this to say about Peter Gammons’ recent comment on Baseball Tonight, “I don’t know where that came from. I don’t know where he’s getting that from. That came out of left field somewhere. I don’t know if he just brought it up or if he heard it from somewhere. I don’t know where he got it.” Houston’s ace is signed through 2011, with a club option for 2012. General manager Ed Wade has no plans to trade Oswalt at this time.
