Phillies Notes: Bullpen, Rollins, Victorino, Benson
Posted on April 28th, 2008 by McFleece
David Murphy of the Philadelphia Inquirer provides us with a few notes on the Phillies this morning.
- The Phils are still seeking left-handed help for the bullpen, even after acquiring Steve Kline two weeks ago. The reason is that General Manager Pat Gillick doesn’t seem too high on Kline, saying “I wouldn’t say probably (he’s the answer). Possibly.”
- Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is scheduled to be evaluated today. He is eligible to come of the DL on May 5th, but Gillick would like him to take 3 or 4 rehab starts before rejoining the major league club.
- Outfielder Shane Victorino is expected to be activated from the DL before Tuesdays game against San Diego. But due to Jason Werth’s recent production (he’s hit .279 since Victorino went down with a strained calf and has four homers in the last 7 games), it’s not a lock that Victorino will resume playing everyday immediately.
- Right-handed starter Kris Benson is still day-to-day with a strained groin. Benson can opt out of his contract May 15 if he pitches at least 10 minor league innings or June 1 if he doesn’t, so keep an eye on this one.

Would seem to think either Myers, or Kline would be a great fit as a lefty specialist for the Phillies since they have both been released recently.
Yeah, Gillick, bring in Myers. That way he can serve up homers to David Wright and Carlos Beltran like he used to against the Red Sox a couple years ago.
You are right about that Omar Rocks!. When Myers is going really bad, he does give up the long ball.
Benson with a groin strain? HITHDTH? If I was married to Anna, that would be the most limber part of my body.
