DFA’d: Botts, Corey, Aquino

A couple of players around the league today were designated for assignment by their respective ballclubs. As per Ken Daley at MLB.com, the Texas Rangers designated OF/DH prospect Jason Botts for assignment. Botts, listed at 6′5″, 250 pounds, was hitting just .158 with the Rangers in 15 games. He also struck out a silly 18 times. In 93 major-league games over the last 4 seasons, Botts has K’d in over 38 percent of his AB’s.

The Boston Red Sox designated pitcher Bryan Corey for assignment in order to make room for third baseman Mike Lowell, who is coming off of the disabled list. This is brought to us by Nick Cafardo at The Boston Globe.

As for the Baltimore Orioles, the team designated pitcher Greg Aquino for assignment, according to Pete Kerzel at MLB.com. The team recalled pitcher Garrett Olson from Triple-A Norfolk to start tonight, and Olson picked up the win versus the Tampa Bay Rays.
