Phil Hughes Joins A-Rod, Posada on DL; Rasner Up
UPDATE: (5/1) 7:00pm (EST) - Hughes’ injury is more significant than initially thought. Hughes is expected to be out until July with a fracture if his 9th rib. He won’t resume any baseball activities for four weeks. Darrell Rasner will be called up to take Hughes’ spot in the rotation.
UPDATE: (4/30) 9:56pm (EST) - As per Bryan Hoch at MLB.com, right-hander Phil Hughes is yet *another* Yankee headed to the DL. Hughes was placed on the disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Apr 30, 12:26am (EST) - According to the Associated Press, New York Yankees shortstop Alex Rodriguez is the latest Bronx Bomber headed to the 15-day disabled list. The diagnosis for A-Rod is a strained right quadriceps. An MRI revealed a Grade 2 strain. Rodriguez of course joins catcher Jorge Posada on the DL, who is nursing a shoulder injury to his throwing arm. This is A-Rod’s first time on the DL since 2000, when he was playing for the Seattle Mariners.
Replacing those 2 bats in the lineup will certainly not be easy. A-Rod and Posada were the most productive Yankee hitters just a season ago, when Rodriguez won the American League MVP award. Morgan Ensberg will likely see the bulk of playing time over at the hot corner. The Yankee pitchers will need to step-up in their absense, but youngsters Phil Hughes (0-4, 9.00 ERA) and Ian Kennedy (0-2, 8.53 ERA) have been struggling, to say the least.

hmmm I think you could just say the Yankee fans would like a big bottle of something that either knocks them out or just flat out kills them at this point….. arragh
There’s enough positives to not literally jump out the window . but this team’s early season have been frustrating to the extreme over the last few years and it just gets ever more comical.
05: Tim Redding, Darrel May, Shawn Chacon, Aaron Small, Jaret Wright, Carl Pavano, Kevin Brown
06: Terrance Long, Aaron Guiel, the corpse of Bernie Williams, Bubba Crosby.
07: the entire non-Wang / Pettitte pitching staff.
still , they got through all that. and they always found something good while going along those disastors. like Wang /Cano in 05, Cabrera in 06, and Joba etc in 07.
must…. remember… it’s … only… April… and .. not … throw… computer / TV … out .. the.. window…
Yikes. Billy Beane’s going to have to hire Versace to make a custom fleece to find one worthy of what he’s going to do to the Yankees with Joe Blanton or Rich Harden.
