Yankees Notes: A-Rod, Kennedy

According to Peter Abraham at the LoHud Yankees Blog (The Journal News), MRI results on Alex Rodriguez’ injured quad showed progress, but the All-Star third baseman is not yet ready to play in any rehab games. A return this week has been ruled out, and he isn’t expected back for about another week now. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, “We can’t afford to have him come back for two days then lose him for six weeks. We want to have him fully healed.”

In other Yankees’ news, the club will call-up pitcher Ian Kennedy from Triple-A to start on Thursday night against the Rays, according to Geroge A. King III of the New York Post. Kei Igawa will now be relegated to the bullpen. This means the Yankees will go with Rasner, Pettitte and Wang for the weekend Subway Series against the New York Mets.

  1. Wang vs. Maine during the Sunday game will be fantastic. The Mets should knock up Pettitte pretty well, and Rasner is a wild card (and he’ll lose if Santana gets pushed back to face the Yankees). I say the Mets take 2 out of 3 from their banged-up crosstown rivals.

  2. It’s a shame A Rod won’t be around for this crown jewel inter league series most people fans of MLB wait for all season. It just won’t be the same without him.
