May 12, 11:40pm (EST) - As per Dave van Dyck of The Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Cubs could be interested in signing outfielder Jim Edmonds, who was resently released by the San Diego Padres. Edmonds was hitting just .178 for the Pads, and wasn’t playing anywhere near the Gold-Glove defense he flashed earlier in his career.
Cubs manager Lou Pinella has been looking for a left-handed bat to add to his lineup, and Edmonds could just be that bat, sadly. The move could allow the organization to move younster Felix Pie back to Triple-A Iowa for more regular at-bats.
