Prior Has Tear in Shoulder Capsule

Well, I guess it was inevitable. According to Padres.mlb.com, starting pitcher Mark Prior has been diagnosed with a tear in his shoulder capsule. Yes, the same shoulder he had surgery on in 2007. The injury will not require any additional surgery, but it is a bump in the road for Prior as he attempt yet another comeback to the big-leagues. Prior experienced shoulder discomfort while throwing a bullpen session at the Padres’ spring training complex in Arizona.

And this, folks, is why there was limited interest in Prior, even for just $1 million. He’ll shut down baseball activities for a few weeks, and then he’ll resume throwing and see how he feels. There is no timetable for him to begin his re-hab, as it will all depend on how the shoulder feels.

  1. A shame. Still with pitchers that had his stuff, not heard of to take a shot on someone like him for a 1 million long shot.

Does make one wonder how much Dusty Baker had to do with this yet another early arm burn out pitcher?

  2. Yeah, if I’m a “contending” team GM in the offseason, I would take the shot too. A shame indeed. Dusty has plenty of more young arms to ruin in Cincy now.
