Padres Bit by Injury Bug, Again..
A few days after losing CY Young award winning pitcher Jake Peavy, the San Diego Padres lost their # 2 starter Chris Young, as well as catcher Josh Bard. Both players were injured in Wednesday’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Chris Young was hit in the face on a line drive off the bat of Albert Pujols. He did not seem to be in pain, surprisingly enough. His face was left quite bloody, but he sat in front of the mound and looked annoyed more than anything else. He has been diagnosed with a fracture in his nose, but will go for further tests to see if he suffered any head trauma. It does not appear as though he’ll miss a significant amount of time.
As for Josh Bard, he sprained his left ankle just two batters after Young’s injury. It has not been a very fortunate season thus far for San Diego, who currently sit at 17-31.
General manager Kevin Towers has called the team “bad”, and has threatened wholesale changes to the team. This could be one of the primary “selling” ball-clubs come July’s trading deadline.
