Gibbons Fired by Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays have fired manager John Gibbons, according to Ken Rosenthal. This marks the third manager in the big-leagues in the past week to be fired. Gibbons
managed the club to a 305-205 record over the course of the past 5 seasons or so. The Blue Jays were seemingly everyone’s “dark horse” pick the last few years to take on the Yankees and Red Sox in the A.L. East, but each year ended with the Jays never truly in contention. The Jays have also fired first base coach Ernie Whitt, third base coach Marty Pevey and hitting coach Gary Denbo.
The Blue Jays have tapped into some of their past history to find Gibbons’ replacement, as Cito Gaston will be taking over as the club’s new skipper. Gaston was two world series titles for the Jays in the early 90’s. Gaston had been special assistant to the president and CEO.
