Schilling Completes Fleece of Red Sox
Posted on June 20th, 2008 by Mr. Fleece
According to the Boston Herald, Curt Schilling has announced that he will be having season ending surgery on his injured shoulder this coming Monday. He has not pitched for
the Sox this year, after signing the one-year deal this past off-season. He had pain over the winter, and rehab did not have the results the organization and Schilling had hoped for.
This could spell the end of Curt’s career. On the bright side for Schilling, if this is indeed the end, he went out in fleece-er-ific fashion. In other words, he robbed the Red Sox out of $8 million. Nice Ball, Curt.

The fleece went both ways. It was the Red Sox who made him go the rehab route, rather than get surgery. While it might have been a push for him to make it back in the season, this guaranteed that he wouldn’t make it. This might be the end of Schilling on the mound.
The Sox took away the most likely chance he had of pitching this year, and like him or not (which I don’t) he wanted to pitch. I’d say this is an equal fleecing. Schilling also won’t get some of the money due to it being incentive heavy.
Yep, He wanted to have the surgery and the Sox wouldn’t let him, if they had, he may have been back by late August, early September.
It’s not that the Sox have a shortage of starting pitching anyway, or really need him at all for that matter, only it would have been nice to see him pitch 1 last time in the post season for old times sake.
Good ‘Ole Curt just announced yesterday that he will have the surgery and then begin the 4 month rehab process and then “decide” if he will pitch next season or not.
This was announced on the Red Sox WEEI Radio network in an interview with Curt and is posted on the Boston Globe website. Hmmm
Curt going to attempt to fleece somebody next season? It’s not going to be Boston this time, they have plenty of starters this season without him already, but someone will certainly bite..
