Testicular Fracture?? Ouch!
Posted on July 2nd, 2008 by Mr. Fleece
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder has suffered a left testicular fracture while taking a foul tip off his, well, you know. Needless to say, he’ll be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Geez, I got nearly ill while reading this. As rotoworld documents, this tops Kaz Matsui’s anal fissures suffered in Spring Training. Best of luck Mr. Snyder on a speedy recovery. Hang in there, pal.

OUCH! I thought they wear protective cups to avoid from situations like this? I’ve heard of this happening to hockey goalies (where the puck is fired at 100 MPH and is harder than a baseball), but never to a catcher. Tools of ignorance indeed.
Actually a Baseball at that speed will cause more damage because it is heavier, therefore it will hit with more force. The reason it happens less in baseball is because most the time the balls (pun intended) moving at that speed are coming directly towards the catcher and can easily be blocked by the glove. In hockey the puck can be coming in at different angles and is much more difficult to be blocked with the glove.
yikes
I don’t know about you, but I just scratched “catch a major league game” off of my bucket list.
I am a former minor league catcher and I have never heard of someone actually breaking their balls (pund intended as well). I have taken many a shot to the jublies, be it foul tips or collisions at the plate. This is a first for me! I will consider myself lucky!!! All I gotta say is you might want to consider buying a larger cup next time!
Damn…that’s gotta hurt.
Bill Lee in his book said this happened to Carlton Fisk during the mid 70’s while with the Red Sox one time while he was pitching when something was protruding outside of his cup and led to an extended DL stint as well.
