I am sure many of you could be familiar with this story, as I have seen it floating around some media outlets and blogs this morning. But in this article written by Dan Graziano of the Star Ledger, we learn of an “interesting” exchange between Graziano himself, and David Sloane (the agent for New York Mets’ first […]

UPDATE: (April 17th, 11:06pm EST) - It turns out that Tejada is a little less innocent in this story than one might have initially thought. On ESPN’s Sportscenter tonight, a clip was released of an “E:60″ interview scheduled to air next week in which Tejada is asked point blank when he was born. The shortstop replies “1976″ with […]

Buried in Jon Heyman’s story about the worst free agent signings ever is a nice little tidbit about recently suspended Braves prospect Jordan Schafer. It was always a bit puzzling as to how Schafer was caught for using HGH when there is no HGH test at this time. Well, it seems we have the answer.
MLB […]

Once again, Tampa Bay Rays reliever Al Reyes was a complete disaster last night - only this time, it wasn’t on a baseball field.
Apparently, Reyes was out celebrating his 38th birthday and decided to get completely sloshed at a local Tampa bar. In the process, Reyes picked fights with random patrons, was punched in the […]

According to George King at the New York Post, Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu of the New York Yankees were fleeced by fellow teammate, and supposed “friend,” Hideki Matsui. Apparently at the beginning of Spring Training, Jeter and Abreu made a bet where the first person to get married wins… um, Jeter… married (a list […]

An interesting little prank out of Cubs’ camp, as per ESPN. Chicago Cubs’ strength coach Tim Buss wasn’t feeling so well after players had told him to go take a look at his car (a 1995 Nissan Sentra) in the parking lot. The car was wrecked, and barely recognizable. Buss figured it was either Kerry […]

It turns out that a Rockies fan pulled the old switch-a-roo to secure Barry Bonds’ tainted 762nd homerun ball - which might be Bonds’ last career homerun ball, and could land the fan some serious cheddar.
The Rocky Mountain News tells us that 24-year-old Boulder, Colorado resident Jameson Sutton pretty much fleeced two other fans in the chase for this ball […]

According to rotoworld.com, Cubs’ young outfielder Felix Pie is scheduled to have an outpatient procedure in order to correct a testicular torsion. He is only expected to miss between 3-5 days. In other words, he’s been fleeced. All we can say is: Ouch!
In case you were wondering (which you probably weren’t, but I’m going to tell you […]

On ESPN’s Sportscenter this morning, there was a very intriguing report of a prank pulled by the entire Phillies’ organization on starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick. Apparently, the organization informed Kendrick that he was “traded to Japan.” They had Kendrick sign three different documents, gave him his flight plans and itinerary, and they even had the team’s […]

If there was ever an Off-Field Fleece Olympics, this might take the gold. Richard Johnson of the NY Post’s Page Six (a leading gossip column) has the scoop on what was allegedly a very rough night for the Mets #2 starter Pedro Martinez.
While in Miami last week, Pedro decided to check out Prime 112 in […]

As our readers know, we are a site primarily dedicated to passing along baseball rumors, news, and we offer analysis in regards to a variety of baseball issues. On the eve of the Superbowl, however, I felt it appropriate to nominate the Patriots for “potentially” fleecing the Rams out of their Superbowl rings in Superbowl […]

Anyone who listens to ESPN’s morning talk show “Mike and Mike in the Morning” knows that on Friday January 11th, there was a celebrity “roast” in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This event was put on for charity, a great charity at that: The V Foundation for cancer research.
Unfortunately, one of the ESPN personalities that was […]

Mets.com has a ”feel-good” article about former major league baseball third baseman Robin Ventura, it’s a good read.
I knew Ventura had been injured during his career, but I never knew to what extent. During Spring Training of 1997, Ventura slid into home-plate, crushing his ankle and suffering an injury that would nag him throughout the rest of […]

This is a new feature here at MLB Fleece Factor, which will deal with fleeces that occur off the diamond, and out of GM’s offices and owner’s boxes. Everyone knows that fleeces can occur in our daily lives, or the lives of others. This segment will attempt to bring to light, or expose, such ”off-field” fleeces.
